a needle stash...

i wonder how many of you have a needle stash. if i were more organized, i probably would not have purchased so many needles...when i can't find what i'm looking for, i wind up buying some. i do have a needle book that i made many years ago, so out it came this morning and my needles and needle threaders will be properly filed. each section has a plastic envelope to hold packages and a piece of felt for loose needles. i really was organized back when i was working and didn't have lots of free time.

the cushion for the stool i showed you last week is finished. i padded it with 2 layers of a thick cotton blanket i had found at the thrift store many years ago. i knew it would come in handy some day.  the backing is a just a plain white cotton.

there's piping around the edges

close up of the back

thick cotton padding...so soft

don't think i posted this pic of some more free motion embroidery i did with cheesecloth, bits of cloth and lace and bits of left over cheesecloth. this will get some hand embroidery eventually.

i woke up in the middle of the night to a very welcome thunderstorm so we have been lucky to get a bit more rain. the temperature is still in the high 90s but we're already almost half way through summer.
wishing you all a good week. see you next time.

UPDATE:  adding a picture of the inside of the needle book since it has been requested...

Deanna~ The chair turned out great! I'd love to see the needle book opened. You are so talented. Since I have no needle sense (translated into 'knowledge'), all my needles are collected in bits of cloth, flannel, Warm & Natural batting - and held in a zippered plastic bag (the kind pillow cases come in!). Not nearly as cute and organized as yours, but it works well enough!
Hot here, some moisture, no rain. Enjoy your weekend :)

i don't have a needle stash. i just use a variety pack of dmc embroidery needles. one pack lasts me years. but your meanderings are more eclectic than i.

No 'Stash' here wither--I have ten needles of varying sizes only...have lost some in travels I know. Your stash is wide ranging, like you. The chair is so old world looking it's charming.

Your chair is wonderful!!! I love the fabric. I am a huge fan of piping. It adds such a nice addition to almost anything. I have been sitting here trying to get motivated to do something and your needle book is just the ticket. Like you, I grow tired of hunting for the packet of needles and just buy more. Then I also find new brands that become my new favorites. Having them all together, organized, and beautifully contained is a fantastic idea! Much nicer than the rubber banded piles I have scattered all over. I am hoping some of the monsoonal moisture will make up here soon. It has reached southern Oregon. I am tired of the heat. Do people in Texas get grumpy during the heat? They sure do here. Thanks for the inspiration!

I must have a lot more needles than I know ... hidden in little boxes or pin cushions .... ánd in my work, threaded with different colours !

Ha, Deanna, a windmill on your chair ! (that's what I noticed first of course ;-) !)

We had hot days too, though not by far as hot as yours ! but right now ther's a thunderstorm ... don't have to water the plants with lots of watering cans from the ditch tomorrow ...)

I love how organised your sewing needle book is. I've been working my way through my stash of needles, and will soon have to buy more. I haven't had to buy any for years, lol. The chairs looks fabulous with it's makeover

I have plenty of needles, kept in ziplock bags here and there, the fisrt I find is the one from which I will pick a needle, since I keep losing my working needle all the time.
I love the stool, wise choice of fabrics, very attractive the contrast between the patterned one and the lace.
Going to be over 100 today...

I'm afraid my needles are not organized. Sometimes it's easier to go out and buy another pack rather than hunt down the size I need. Oh well. Glad you have rain, been rather hot is Austin.

I have a needle stash and so many packets of beading needles???? Probably from when I taught an afternoon leisure class to retired ladies a few years ago. Your book is divine, I would love to see it open too. You already know how much I love your chair, very inventive of you to use that cloth in that way and adding the lace was inspired.

and......you should put a picture of the chair in the group. I know everyone would love to see it.

I have a stash. :) Just found some more tucked away yesterday when I was looking for something else, It amazes me the detail that becomes apparent when something is held up to the light...

Organising your needles, now that's proper organising, lovely case too. I have a few packets of needles and I know where they are. I've ended up eith a few because the needles I normally like to use (size 8 short) usually come in mixed packs. As I add needles to the needle cases I make I can keep my stash reasonably small.
Your stool has turned out beautifully. I love the fabric and the frill on the seat. A lovely asset for your workroom.
Happy making.

That needle stash is wonderful! I think I might have one but rather than being neatly organised like your mine seems to live all over the house!

Yes I do have needles stashes too. They stash away so well I forgot where they were! I like your needle book. I must make one to keep all my needles in one place. Love the chair cushion, you did a good job on it. Glad to hear you got some rain - Keep cool.
Hugs

A few years ago, a small drawer was designated for needles & it's made all the difference. I have a lost and mislaid stash, too- been cleaning out my basement & have found half used packages here and there...including teeny-tiny short quilting needles, that I can't imagine using now!

I don't know how I missed this post but here I am. The chair turned out great! and oh my I'm copying your needle book idea as soon as possible -- but it won't have a cool cover like yours, at least for a while. :)
